Goal 1

The time to make the decision to be successful as an independent learner is now. Don’t start your course with even the thought that you’ll give this a try. Your success is solely in your hands.

Goal 2

Participate in the discussion board with your peers and facilitators. This is your chance to express ideas, meet other students around the state of Mississippi and encourage others to be successful with you.

Goal 3

Talk with your facilitator often. Keep him/her informed of anything going on that could hinder your success.

Goal 4

Be creative and map out your backup plan right now. Computers are fickle creatures and will lock-up or crash at the most inconvenient time, like right in the middle of your quiz.

Here’s some ideas:

*                    Work with your site-coordinator on alternative computer access at the school

*                    Check out your local library for computer availability

*                    Ask relatives if you can use their computers as a backup

*                   Call your local community center to see what resources are available

Goal 5

Treat your course like a job. Set aside your work hours and don’t change them. Routine will be your strongest ally when learning to organize your own learning environment.

Goal 6

Set your first goal to accomplish a minimum of one activity, quiz, reading, or project completion every time you sit at your computer.

This is your learning experience. You will achieve valuable skills that exceed the coursework and only you can determine to be at the top of your potential.
